Respite

The respite program aims to assist people with Mental Health issues, Autism (Spectrum) and Disabilities, their families and carers through the provision of accessible and responsive support designed to meet the unique needs of the family unit.

Carers who spend a lot of time caring for a loved one sometimes experience frustration, grief, depression, anxiety, and/or isolation.  You may need a well-deserved break from these responsibilities.

Not all caregivers experience stress, so respite is also provided to families to attend business meetings, medical emergencies, planned medical care or family functions.

Benefits include:

  • Assist the person being cared for to become more independent;
  • Enable families to engage in community or daily activities without stress;
  • Provide families with opportunities for rest and relaxation to recharge you energy;
  • Enable families to enjoy favourite pastimes and pursue new activities; and
  • Enable families to spend time together, or time alone
  • Emergency places available for those “unplanned moments”

Activities offered:

Activity options are designed specifically to satisfy carers and their families own unique needs.

We do have structured planed events to promote social, education and recreational development in safe supportive environments.

Centre-based activities may include but not limited to; table tennis, pool, computer and internet access, cooking programs, movies,  craft activities, pre-employment such as resume writing, support in completing forms and documents.

Community activities may include but not limited to; going out for lunch or dinner, listening to a band, singing up a storm at Karaoke, cheering on your team at the footy, soccer, basketball, cricket or having a round of mini golf.

Overnight respite in the form of a holiday, we have planned holidays and we can offer this option for those unplanned emergencies.  In addition to having a great holiday and the carer receiving the break they need, “holiday goers” also experience significant growth in areas of self-esteem, independence, friendship skills, social comfort, peer relationships, adventure, exploration, and environmental awareness.
