Intework is a specialised employment service funded by the Commonwealth Government. Intework assists organisations to provide work opportunities for people who have a disability.

Benefits to Employers

Intework assists employers by providing both on-the-job training and support to both the person with a disability and those people who may work directly with them. The benefits to employers using Intework are:

• Motivated, willing and punctual workers.

• A job-match process that matches the school leavers skills and abilities and support needs to both the organisation and the job.

• Intensive training and one-to-one support by Intework staff for as long as required, and whenever the learning of new duties is necessitated.

• On-going monitoring to maintain skill and productivity levels to ensure that the placement is successful.

About the Program

Intework’s Supported Employment program is funded by the Federal Government through the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).

Intework’s Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE) promotes the principle of an inclusive society where all supported employees feel valued, their differences are respected and skills promoted, thereby empowering people with disabilities to gain employment in the community. The program is based on employment opportunities in an inclusive framework and environment for people with a disability, with an ultimate goal to empower and guide people with disabilities to gain employment in the community.

The Intework business model is designed around the concept of offering real work opportunities. To achieve this Intework works in partnership with other organisations to provide competitive business solutions through a range of services such as packaging, assembly, general labour and administration.

Focusing our efforts on building social inclusion and collaborative opportunities with employers, Intework manages small business units in the community where we are contracted to work for other businesses. Often this work is completed on the employers premises alongside mainstream workers (labour hire arrangement) or in our own ‘owner/operator’ small business units. These provide a setting that enables training and development of valuable work ethic and skills for people with a disability in areas where they may have an emerging skill base.

We tailor individual support taking a ‘people first’ approach matching skills and employment choices to the needs of an employer applying a social inclusion framework whilst providing intensive training and support where needed.

Intework provides two main models of Supported Employment,

1. Enclaves – are usually situated in offices and the work is typically administration style contracts. Employment opportunities provided include clerical teams, scanning, document file management, shredding and packaging.

2. Work Teams – are tailored to meet the needs of an employer, and just as in the general work force, are expected to travel to the company and work there during the day. The organisation is responsible for providing work equipment and specific jobs in partnership with Intework ensures that the workers are integrated into the worksite.

All our work teams and enclaves are small business units operating within a larger business (of Intework) which ensures the success of the individual supported employee and allows a greater variety of choice of work in different industries.

Intework support staff are responsible for ongoing training, maintenance of quality and general supervision and support for employees. Teams operate either on a mobile or on-site basis. Mobile crews currently operate in gardening, landcare, limestone products manufacture, car cleaning and domestic house cleaning. On-site crews generally work on an external organisation’s premises.
